'Samsara' was a collaborative performance work, activated from the nuances of care we witnessed by palliative workers at Assisi Hospice, Singapore. The work seeks to highlight the laborious tasks of caregiving; and how caregivers may turn to each other for support. After witnessing positive regression amongst patients and underscoring play as a fundamental aspect of aging, the work draws parallels between the continuous flow of life, death, and rebirth through the tedious and transformative action of tearing and remaking paper. It reinterprets paper makings cyclical nature, and transforms discarded papers from the hospice into a poignant metaphor for renewal, continuity and second chances; while also advocating for papermaking as a soothing activity for patients within the palliative care setting.
