Turbulent Transience
Medium
Plastic Chair With Its Leg Cut Off, Suction Cup, Double Clamping Mechanism, Seatbelt, Zipties and Red Warning Flag
Date
October 2025- ongoing
Location
Singapore
Singapore still ferries their migrant workers on lorries, and with this practice came the invention of the plastic chair with it's legs cut off. Informed by an ethos of Arté Util or utilitarian art, Turbulent Transience dissects the phenomenon, objecthood and ergonomics of The Plastic Chair With Its Leg Cut Off: a bricolage object commonly used by migrant workers to sit more comfortably on the backs of lorries. It frontiers a modified 'safer' chair that attempts at nullifying discomforts felt by workers from being ferried in this manner. Modifications include suction cups, double clamping mechanisms, seatbelts and cushions. This project is ongoing.
